Still doing group e-mails!

Image
Hello! Recently many missionaries, including my brother, have decided to stop sending out group emails because it's "boring" or they "dont want to". Well, as I was listening to all these other missionaries from the great and spacious building telling me to stop sending group emails any more, I decided to do the selfless thing and continue sharing my love and testimony with you every week, as well as my fun missionary experiences. As they enjoy their freedom in that great and spacious building, I'll enjoy the amazing fruit of sharing my love with all of you wonderful children of God. I love you all! Well, now that I got that over with, I guess I'll try to share some interesting experiences from the week. We had an appointment with a lady who lives on the 16th floor of an appartment building. But when we got there we realized that none of the elevators were working. We wanted to talk to her anyway, even though we only had like 5 minutes, so we we...

Transfers!

Image
Hello!    Well, we got transfer calls this week, and guess what? I'm actually staying in my area! This is only the second time that I've stayed in one area for three whole transfers. Wow, so long. Who knows, maybe I'll break my record next transfer and stay for four transfers. I was kind of hoping to have served in 8 areas by the end of my mission, and this is only my 6th, so I guess we'll see. But hey, if I stay here next transfer I'll be breaking my record for how long I stay in my area, and if I get transfered It'll be my first time moving to my 7th area, so I'll break that record too! I win either way! And for those of you keeping track, Elder Anderson, who started his mission with me, is still in his 2nd area, haha. Transfer calls are bonkers, they make no sense until afterwards. And then you see how it's really God who is giving us the calls, and not just some sort of logical way of sorting missionaries. It's really cool to see that revelat...

America / Sent Dec. 3, 2018

Hello! Well, this week was pretty normal. I guess it's normally like that after a baptism. We had a girl on date for this coming Saturday, but it fell through this week, so that was too bad. She still wants to get baptized though, so hopefully we can set another date in a few weeks. And ok, I feel like I need to give an explination on why I teach so many young teenagers. So at the beginning of my mission we did that because people at that age were so open to learning about the gospel and always seemed so promising, but it was always too hard for them to progress, especially when their parents weren't interested, so after some frustrating experiences I decided to only teach people over 16 if their parents weren't interested or they didn't have some other promising connection to the church. But a few zone conferences ago Elder Gonzalas from the 70 and his wife came, and his wife shared her conversion story about how she was baptized when she was 12 and how grateful ...

Baptism! / Sent Nov. 26, 2018

Hello! Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing great. We sure are down here in Guadeloupe. This was a pretty crazy week, but good crazy, so let me tell you about it. We baptized Ruben's, a 15 year old we found a few months ago! And yeah, his name is actually Ruben's, spelled exactly like that. It's a good thing he's from a French country, because I don't know how to show that he has something in English. Ruben's'? Ruben's's? Ruben''s? Ruben's's's's's's's's's's's's' s? I dont know. It's way easier in French. But anyway, his baptismal date was for this Saturday, and on wednsday we had a lesson with him, and his mom told us that he wasn't ready for the baptism and that she wanted him to wait a few more months. Well, he might be a little weird, but come on, he's 15. I don't know a single 15 year old who isn't a little weird and dissobedient sometimes at home. Except f...

4 legs are better than 1 / Sent Nov. 19. 2018

Hello! So, like every week, I promised myself that I would write a big group email, but then I got distracted and had too much fun reading other emails and responding to other people, so I probably won't write a super long group email this week, haha. But for those of you who sent me and email, know that I enjoyed reading it! And know that my short group emails are your fault, haha.  So we had a fun experience this week. We were walking down the road one night, and this one legged guy is walking the other direction with crutches. He was moving pretty darn slow and obviously struggling a little bit. So as we get close to him my champ companion Elder Bennett asks if we can help him, and he says yes. So we each grabbed a crutch, and put one of his arms around Elder Bennet's shoulders and the other arm around my shoulders, and carried him for three of four minutes to where he was going. We even crossed the street with him. It was pretty cool to be able to help him like th...

Good things come to those who wait. / Sent Nov. 12, 2018

Hey everyone! Hello! So just to make my heading a little bit more exciting, I'll give the reason for it at the end of my email. After all, good things come to those who wait. And no skipping to the end like you did last time, Braden. Or sorry, Elder Kerr. Anyway, this week was good. We got lots of new amis last week, and we had the opportunity to teach lots of them again this week. Nothing super exciting happened yet, but pray that there'll be some baptisms soon! I guess the church has started sending senior couple missionaries around the world to do histories on how the church started and the conversion stories of members in different places of the world, and the senior couple doing the carribean came to Guadeloupe this week. They interviewed some members about their conversions and stuff, and it sounds pretty cool. But I also talked to them on Sunday, and it turns out that they're from Bountiful! So that's cool. They live by the golf course, and I thin...

Sent Nov. 5th

NOTE FROM HOLLY :  McKade did not  send a group e-mail this week, but he did share a portion of an e-mail he sent to Braden.  I loved his insight and testimony and so I wanted to share it. Yeah, I am PUMPED about dad. Did you see that picture of him on splash mountain? That's nuts! Ok, quick spiritual thought. I really like the beginning of third Nephi, because Nephi is doing many of the same miracles that Christ is doing on the other side of the world at the exact same time as Him. I don't think there is any other prophet in the Book of Mormon who heals someone from the dead, and that only happens when Christ is preforming the same miracles on the other side of the world. Ok, now back to our family. They have gone on and on about the miracles that have happened with dad the past two weeks. There have been lots of miracles over in the states for our family the past two weeks. And, during those SAME TWO WEEKS (Got to put that in caps to put some emphasis on how dad does)...

Weeding ananas and juggling machettes / Sent Oct. 29, 2018

Hello everyone! I decided to actually grab your attention today by making a cool subject line for my email. I guess part of its in French, but oh well. Anyway, I'll just jump right into that story. So I was on an exchange with elder Jeppesen, and we saw some guy weeding a little field of some plant. We asked if we could help and he said yes. Turns out the plant was pineapples. I've never seen that before. I didn't even realize they grew like that. It was pretty cool. But the top of the pineapples are super spiny, so to weed close to them the guy was using a big machete. And you know what I thought of when I saw that, haha. So I asked if I could see it, and then I grabbed two rocks and juggled them with the machete. It was pretty fun. Elder Jeppesen thought it was funny, but the guy we were helping just seemed confused, haha.  Also, my family shared something with me this week that I'd like to share with all of you. As many of you know, my dad hit his head real...

Random Stuff / Sent Oct. 22, 2018

Hey everyone! Lots of cool stuff happened this week, including my 20th birthday! I don't really want to spend a long time writing about all of it though, haha, so I'll just talk a little bit about a bunch of random stuff that happened this week. Monday night my companion was cutting his hair, and afterwards he asked for help around the ears. I thought that he had left the guard on the razor, but he took it off, so I ended up cutting a small chunk above his ear 0mm short instead of 13mm short. Whoops. He was very nice and forgiving, but I felt so bad. There was no way to hide it, and it looks pretty bad. On the bright side, I doubt anyone will ever ask me to cut their hair again! To make that story even better, the next day we had zone conference, and Elder Gonzales, in the quorum of the 70, was there. That was cool. He taught us how to contact better by finding common ground, and how to invite people to change better too. He also told Elder Bennett to go to a barb...

Guyane! Sent Oct 15, 2018

Image
Hey everyone! I got to go down to Guyane for a few days this week to finish up my legalization. It's now offically over, so I won't have to travel all around the world every few months any more, haha. I also now been on 27 airplanes since I started my mission, so that's cool. I used to be pretty scared of traveling alone because I knew if I messed something up and missed my flight I'd be wasting a lot of the church's money. But like Ether 12:27 says, I'll make weak things become strong. I guess I'm the weak thing, but He's making me strong, haha, and I now can go through customs and any number of layovers with no problem. I also got to stay with Elder Peterson while I was down there, and we were able to walk through our old area together a few times, so it was pretty fun. And I got to see a couple members too. I won't lie, it kind of felt like a two day mission vacation, haha, but it was so awesome.  Nothing else cool happened the rest of t...
