Baptisms and Transfers / Sent April 15, 2019
Hello!
Holy cow, I have so much I'd like to say about this week. But unfortunately, lots of very Christ-like people decided to email me this week, and I don't have much time because I want to respond to all of them too. So we'll see how this goes. Wish me luck.
First off, transfers! I've been in Barbados for a whole two transfers already, so naturally, it's time to get transferred again. I'm really sad to be leaving, I've loved Barbados. The people here are so nice, and we have such an amazing area with so many awesome people we have been teaching. Also, I've been so blessed to be here and be able to work closely with President Fisher too. He's really taught me a lot about how to be a better missionary and how to be a better person. It's been a huge blessing. I also had the chance to serve around lots of missionaries I wouldn't have met normally because they got called English speaking. I've met lots of people who will be lifelong friends for sure. But now, the moment you have all been waiting for, where am I going? I'm going to Martinique! I haven't been there yet, so it's pretty exciting. My companion will be Elder Plowman, who I've never met yet. But I'm super pumped for our zone. There will only be six of us, all Elders, and I've already been companions with half of them. It's gonna be so awesome. So although I'm sad to leave, I'm super excited for the next six weeks. Mais j'espere que je n'ai pas oublier tout ma Francais. Mon francais? Mes Francais? Mince.
Also, we had three baptisms this week! We baptized a lady named Esmay and her two sons, Brent and Jordan. It was the most stressful week of my life, because although Esmay and her sons were super ready, she was very scared to commit to being baptized, and almost backed out of it. But we fasted and prayed and worked so so hard, and we saw many miracles this week, and everything worked out. I'm so happy for them. I'll miss them for sure, they are such an awesome family.
Ok, one last funny story. Lots of people here have a hard time understanding the difference between the Book of Mormon and the Bible. They just don't understand that it was written by different people in a different place, but it's not a new translation of the Bible. No matter how much we explain or how many maps of the world we show them, some people still don't get it. But Elder Rytting was teaching someone with and an older member named Sister Nelson a few weeks ago, and while explaining that to someone, Sister Nelson said "Not everyone can name John", and the person started to understand. I guess we should have been speaking Bajan and not English. And another member named Khalil told us about an analogy using saltfish and bakes, two local foods here. Well, we've started using the phrase "Not everyone can name John" and using the saltfish and bakes analogy, and it actually really helps some people understand, haha.
Well, sorry for the long email even though I said it would be short. Also, I took a TON of pictures, but I forgot to bring the thing to connect my camera to the computer, so sorry about that. Some of the baptism pictures are on the mission's facebook page if you want to look there. Well, have a great week! Love you all!
Love, Elder Kerr
