The Door / Sent February 11, 2018

Hello! Before I forget, I totally forgot to write about something that happened last week that I wanted to write about. We got invited to go to a church called "The Door Christian Fellowship church" But they mostly just called it The Door. Anyway, we went, and it was quite the experience. They started by singing a bunch of Christian songs, and they weren't too bad, but it went on for a little while. One of the songs was called "My God is awesome", and I think that was the only line in the song. The song was maybe five minutes long. Good stuff. But then after that the preacher started talking about the offering bucket or whatever you call it, the thing they pass around and people donate money. He talked for maybe another 20 minutes just about that and why it was so important to donate. And then the guest speaker got up and started praying and blessing people very loud and irreverently so that they would be blessed financially. By then we had already been ther...

Hello! How are you all? I hope you're doing great. I've been really excited to email this week because so much cool stuff has happened, but then I got here today and I don't remember anything at all from this week, haha. So I guess I'll just keep writing random stuff until something good pops into my head. Now that transfer week is over we are pretty much just doing normal missionary work, which is nice. President did want our help with a couple small things, but nothing that took very much time. And now that he is doing zone conferences it'll be another week or two before he has time to be here and work on anything else. We have 7 islands and a small chunk of South America (French Guiana) in our mission, each one its own zone, so President has lots of flying and work to do while he goes around doing zone conferences. He's started only traveling about every other transfer for zone conferences, and just doing the other ones over skype. The skype ones ar...

Barbados / Sent Jan. 28, 2019

Hello! Well, here I am, finally where all of you thought I've been this whole time. Barbados. It's pretty cool here. Also, the keyboards are normal english keyboards again, so here I am struggling to type again, haha. So this might not be a super long email, but I'll try to give you a little overview of this past week, because it was pretty weird. I left Guadeloupe on Tuesday, and got to Barbados at around 8pm. We have a pretty big apartment, or a small house more accurately, because we share it with the zone leaders, but there were 8 people sleeping there because everyone is moving around for transfers and waiting for flights or companions and stuff. Then Wednesday we mostly were driving to and from the airport dropping people off and picking people up, and then that evening we got to be at the mission home with the missionaries going home, so we ate and chilled with them, and had a little testimony meeting. It was cool. Then we had to get up early, 5am, to d...

Be careful what you wish for! / Sent Jan. 21, 2019

Hello! Well, I have a funny story for all of you. Once upon a time Elder Kerr was in Pointe-à-pitre for three transfers. He realized that he started to get into a routine, and wasn't really continually improving like he should. So he started to pray so that God would help him keep learning and improving. But, Elder Kerr forgot that it was almost transfer week, and that God has a funny sense of humor. Elder Kerr wasn't asking for a change with the transfers, just maybe a new idea or two to help him keep improving. That's not what God had in mind. So just a few days ago, Friday morning, Elder Kerr and his companion Elder West were just about to start weekly planning. Elder Kerr had just gotten out peanut butter and jelly and some bread to make a sandwich to give him energy during planning. Neither Elder Kerr or Elder West were thinking about transfers, because they always get their calls on Saturday. But just before Elder Kerr started making the sandwich, the phone rang...

Hello! I wasn't  gonna write a group email today, but then I wrote about my week in my email to my mom, so I'll just copy part of that over into here so you can all enjoy it. As for your questions, our week was good. I'll just share a couple highlights. One is that we went to a sweet viewpoint with most of the zone this morning and I led them all in yoga! That's the third time I've done that throughout my mission. It's so much fun. Something else cool is we have an ami named Tamika, who is super cool. She is dominican, so we teach her in English, but she is super open to the gospel and ready to change. She said that she had been praying for a while for God to send her someone to help her change and come closer  to Christ, so that was really cool. She came to church yesterday and liked it too! So things look really good for her. We also met a brazillian guy who works on a cruise ship last sunday, and he is a member who feels really far away from th...

I actually went on a run this week! / Sent Dec. 31, 2019

Hey everyone! Well, I hope you all had a great Christmas. And a great week after Christmas. I'm sorry that most of you will have to start school and work again soon. I realized that as missionaries we are blessed to not have to go back to work after the vacation because we pretty much never stopped working and didn't really have a vacation. So while my transition was smooth as butter and easy as, um, something easy, your transition might be a little harder. So I'm sorry for that, but you'll all be in my prayers this week, haha.  We did something fun this week that I haven't done in months. We went on a run! Our branch was having a cleaning activity Saturday morning at the church, but the only way we could get there was to walk. Or run. It was only like a 20 minute run, but it still felt super great to be able to run again. Then we got to help clean the church for a while, and then one of my favorite members, President Murat, gave us a ride home afterwards. W...

Merry Christmas / Sent Dec. 26, 2019

Merry Christmas everyone!  I know I'm a day late, but let's just pretend I'm saying Merry Christmas 364 days early so I don't have to say it next year, haha. But this past week has been pretty good. We really tried to light the world this week, and it was super fun. We also went caroling a couple times with the other missionaries, and that was great. We made a couple people cry because they were so happy. We had one member tell us that we sing a lot better in English than we do in French, haha. But the funniest moment was when we went to sing to Rubin's, the 15 year old recent convert. We knocked on the door, and started singing when his brother answered the door, but he knew that we wanted to see Rubin's, so he went to get Rubin's. We just kept singing while we were waiting, and then Rubin's came hopping out into the room while he was still putting on his pants, and he kind of hopped in front of the door, saw that there were sister missionaries, and...
