The 4th of July! Sent July 9, 2018

This week was pretty great. It was the 4th of July, so that was awesome! Me and Elder Peterson went to southern fried chicken to celebrate, because it was the most American place here. It's basically KFC but worse. But it was still pretty good in the spirit of America. Also, I bought an American flag bandana a few weeks or months ago, I don't remember, but we taped it over our AC unit, so it was flying in the wind of the AC. And Elder Peterson has Motab's American album, so we were celebrating pretty good. And for Pday today we are gonna do a fourth of july BBQ. I don't know why, but leaving America has really boosted my American pride.
We have been riding the buses here a lot ever since we've been on foot, and normally they work pretty good, but there was a street fair thing going on this week, so the bus times were different in the morning and we didn't know which buses were coming, or when they would come. So it took like an hour to get a bus to the church for district meeting, which was kind of frustrating, and I really didn't want to wait a long time to get a bus back home afterwards. We were walking to the bus stop right out of the church, and I wasn't looking, but the sisters yelled at us, and we looked and the bus was almost at the stop. The buses won't stop though unless there is someone at the stop who waves it down, and we weren't at the stop yet, so I went into panic mode. I started running towards the stop and the bus and waving like crazy to get it to stop. It also isn't easy to run when you have a side bag and your planner in your pocket because it will come out if you run too fast. So I was holding my arm against my body go keep my planner there and holding my bag with that same arm, and running and waving my other arm like crazy to get the bus to stop. The bus stopped, but Elder Peterson was laughing super hard and said I looked like an idiot. The ladies in the front of the bus were laughing too when we got on. But we made it, so it's all worth it.
We also met our new Mission President yesterday! His name is President Fisher and he is awesome. He worked doing stuff for cemeteries before his mission, so I feel like we are pretty much the same person, haha. MOM'S NOTE : FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW, MCKADE WORKED ON THE BOUNTIFUL CITY CEMETERY GROUND CREW THE SUMMER BEFORE HE LEFT ON HIS MISSON. Something cool that he talked about though was sacrifice for the Lord. He explained how they sold their dream house, their car, and lots of other possessions in order to come serve a mission here, but how they did it happily because they wanted to serve the Lord. I didn't have to make any huge sacrifices like that to go on my mission, but I realized that I can make little sacrifices every day to better serve the Lord by working a little harder and being a little better every day, even when it's hard. I hope you can all find little things you can sacrifice too in order to make more time for the Lord in your life. I promise it's worth it.
Well, I love you all, have a great week!
love, Elder Kerr
