French Guiana Here I Come! -Sent January 8, 2018

Bonjour!

Hey! Guess who is finally going to a French country! This guy! I mean elder. Anyway, I'm going to French Guiana this week, and I'm super pumped! I'm gonna be with the zone leader there, and he is sweet. I've met him once before when I went to Guadeloupe for zone conference, and he is a super obedient and diligent missionary, so I'm excited to work with him. He also has been out for over a year, so his French is probably really good by now, so hopefully I can learn fast. But of course, you can't ever go to a new area without wishing your old one goodbye. I've been in St. Martin for two transfers, but I still feel like I just got here and I don't want to leave yet! I love all the people here, and it'll be hard to say goodbye. I also won't be here for Duwan's baptism, which is sad because he is the first investigator that I've found, taught, and put on date for baptism. But he is ready and it'll be a great baptism and a great day for him even though I'll be gone. So this weekend was really exciting and kind of sad too, but overall I'm happy and confident that I'll love French Guiana, just like I loved St. Martin and St. Vincent.

I've got two kind of funny stories this week, but I can't think of anything very spiritual yet. Maybe you'll just have to find your own spiritual experience this week. The first thing isn't actually funny, but I thought it was cool. I taught a lesson in a different church's building. Our investigator lives right next to her church building, and normally we teach outside, but it started to rain so we went in the church and had our lesson in there, haha. The funniest part was that she didn't really understand priesthood authority very well, so we had to explain to her that the church we were sitting in didn't have the same authority as our church. The lesson went ok though, even though I don't think she fully understood what we were saying. The other funny thing is I got pulled over yesterday! The police here are called the Gendarmarie, and sometimes they just like to get into people's business. So they stopped us and asked what we were doing when we were outside our car, and then they followed us after we started driving and pulled us over just a little bit later and made us show them our ID and the papers for the car and everything. Luckily we had everything we needed so they just let us go. The funniest part is the one guy was pretty bad at english, and he was writing down some information about Elder Tanner, and when Elder Tanner said he was from Pocatello Idaho the guy just said "Oof." and then made Elder Tanner write it for him, haha. Actually the funniest part is that I'm making fun of him but I don't even know how to spell it.

You probably have all heard this, but President Monson died this week, and that was kind of interesting to hear. It was sad for sure because he is the prophet that I've listened to the entire time growing up, but I'm happy for him too because I'm sure he is happier now. And it also shows that God leads our church, not the prophet, because things just keep going on the same when we get a new one. It's just one more testimony to me that the church is true. Well, that's all I've got for this week. And my brain is probably gonna be fried for the next few weeks because of the French, so don't expect any good emails for a while, haha. Have a great one!

Love Elder Kerr

P.S. I forgot to bring the chip reader for my camera this week, but if you want any pictures just look up St. Martin online. And then look up St. Martin after Irma, and that'll be a lot more accurate, haha. But not haha, because hurricanes aren't funny. Have a great week!
