They call me beau. / Sent June 25, 2018
Hey everyone!
This week was good. We are getting used to walking, and it's not bad anymore. My feet don't hurt as much at least, haha. I feel like we are meeting lots of people walking though, which is good. Sometimes it is hard because a lesson will fall through, and we'll be in an area that we've already contacted, so it takes a lot longer to get somewhere else to contact. And street contacting isn't always effective, especially when it's raining, haha.
Another thing that makes contacting interesting is the World Cup. We might as well stay home when brazil or france is playing. It's crazy how into football, or I guess soccer, every is here. We literally can't talk to anyone while the game is on. On the other hand, my companion knows a ton about soccer, so when there isn't a game on it is super easy to start conversations with people. Also, I don't know if you know, but Brazil won their game this week, and all the Brazillians here went nuts. I can't imagine serving in Brazil. There were tons of cars driving down the street by our house for about two hours honking their horns, with people decked out in brazillian uniforms and colors sitting out of the windows, or on top of the cars. It was insane. Super fun though, we were having lunch during that time, so we were just watching.
Another crazy thing happened this week. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before, on or off my mission, so it really caught me off guard. We were walking down the street, and passed two teenage girls, and as we walked past them we said hi, and then one turned around suddenly and said "Vous etes beau." That translates to "you're handsome." I kind of just froze and didn't really know what to say, and then she said I had really blue eyes too. I think I said something like "um, ok. Merci?" And then we turned back around and kept walking. It was super funny. The rest of the day we kept making jokes about me being beau, haha.
My companion looked at the pictures in my last email and my brothers, and burst out laughing because Braden has tons of pictures out hiking and doing cool stuff, and I have a stick I carved, legos, and food. I don't really have a ton of pictures this week, and none as cool as Braden's, so I guess I'll just not send any to avoid embarresment this week, haha. Have a great week!
Love, Elder Kerr
