The Great Controversy - Sent Nov. 6th
Hey Everyone!
This week was kind of long and slightly disappointing. But we got water! We got it on Monday evening, which was a huge surprise, but super awesome! I'm still so happy about that, even though our shower is about the size of a shoebox, haha. But that's a whole lot better that not having one at out house! Anyway, thanks for all the prayers, I know it helped. We did a ton of contacting and tracting this week, and overall not a lot happened. It was disappointing because even though we worked really hard we didn't have much to show for it at the end of the week. But I guess that is just how it goes sometimes. I have lots of hope for this next week though, it should be really good!
One really interesting thing happened though. We were contacting one street, and someone was coming out of their house as we were walking by, so we stopped and talked to him. He is SUPER 7th day, and talked to us for a while about how you aren't keeping the commandments if you don't believe that Saturday is the Sabbath. We didn't have much a chance to say much except "ok, yeah, ok" every time he took a breath, haha. But just when I thought he was wrapping up, he asked if he could give us a book. I said only if we could give him one, and he agreed. But then he invited us in, and gave us a book titled "The Great Controversy", which was written by the 'prophet' from his church, Ellen G. White I think. He told us that it was super good and that he really encouraged us to read it. It felt weird to be on the other end of that invitation for once, haha. But then we pulled out the Book of Mormon, and asked if we could explain it to him. He is super nice, and let us explain it, and he was writing down most of what we said so that he could remember it. He was fine with most of what we said, but didn't believe that Christ could have visited the Americas after he was resurrected. But we told him to read 3 Nephi 11, and think about how he felt, and then pray about it, and he said he would. And we said we would take a look at his book too. I've only looked at a little bit of it, and it isn't all bad, but it definitely isn't scripture or inspired by God. We are gonna meet with him again on Saturday, and I think he is gonna try to disprove the Book of Mormon by showing us scriptures in the Bible or something. Haha, good luck with that, I guess he doesn't realize that the Bible testifies of the Book of Mormon. But it should be an interesting lesson, and I'll tell you more about it next week.
I also celebrated my birthday yesterday! My birthday is October 20th, but I just got a package from my family this week, so we celebrated last night with cake and ice cream and lots of fun birthday stuff. But the funny thing is that Elder Ackley's birthday was on the 4th this month, so we had a combined birthday party. That was funny because my entire life I've shared my birthday with my brother and sister, and I was excited to finally celebrate my birthday without having to share it with anyone on my mission. But nope, once again I shared it. But it was actually super fun, and Elder McNaughtan went all out buying birthday stuff and blowing up balloons, which is why we celebrated so much. He is Elder Ackley's companion, and he woke up in the middle of the night to blow up balloons and decorate so that when Elder Ackley woke up on his birthday, he would come out and see all that birthday stuff! I thought that was so awesome! For the girls out there, that's the kind of guy you want to marry. I'll send you his email so you can get in contact with him if you want, haha.
Well, that's pretty much all I have for this week. No super spiritual meetings or lessons, although I can say that God's hand was in my life every day this week, and we did meet lots of cool people that hopefully we can teach soon. Have a great week everyone!
