I'm Going to be a Dad
FROM HOLLY -- MCKADE SENT A VERY SHORT GROUP E-MAIL THIS WEEK SO I DECIDED TO INCLUDE THE E-MAIL HE SENT TO THE FAMILY ALSO. YOU CAN TELL HE IS PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT HIS UPCOMING TRANSFER -- I DON'T THINK HIS MIND WAS TOTALLY ON HIS E-MAILS THIS WEEK!
Cher famille,
Cher famille,
Well, last week I learned that mom has been praying that I'll have peace and safety on my mission, and dad prayed that I would face trails to learn and grow. I think dad must have prayed harder, because we got our transfer calls, and you won't believe it. Good news: I'm going to the french side on St. Martin! Bad news: I'm gonna be with a companion who has never been to that area before, so we will be "blanking" the area, which just means neither of us know the area at all. Oh, and did I mention that I'm training him too? Yeah, so I'm training a new missionary in an area I've never been before, speaking a language I don't hardly know. And I'm not even done with my own training yet. Thanks for the prayers dad. Let's hope the learning and growth comes along real quick, haha. So I'm a little stressed out, but it still doesn't even seem real to me yet. And lots of the people in St. Martin speak English too, so I won't be completely lost. And I leave tomorrow morning at 6:40, which I didnt know until this morning. I got a call at 9:00ish this morning, and was told that I have to pack my bags tonight, sleep down here with missionaries closer to the airport, and be to the airport at by 5am. Then I'm flying to barbados I think, where I will meet up with another missionary who is going to go to martinique with me, and then we will go to St. Martin from there. I think. No one seems to know 100%, haha. So if I'm scared of anything right now, it's the airports. Please pray for me! I'm really excited too, but I want to do a good job, and help my companion, so we'll see. But hey, 1Nephi 3:7, the Lord will provide a way. Also, I probably won't get your package for a while, because it wasn't here today, and I won't be here tomorrow, haha. Sorry! It will get to me eventually, I just don't know when. I hope you didn't put any thing in there that will go bad by then, haha. It would make a good story though!
Ok, for your questions. First off, I think it's kind of funny that everyone is wishing me happy birthday. I knew it was coming soon, but it didn't really occur to me that it was this week until today, haha. Ok, now to the questions. Elder Jackson is really good at loving the people here, and is a good teacher. I've learned how important it is to build a relationship with the people in the branch and with the people we teach. And I've learned some great analogies to use while teaching that I don't know how to say in French, haha. The fish in the sink were given to us by a member, and we cooked them and ate them. They were good, but we didn't now how to do much to them except salt and pepper them up, but it was fun. I actually spoke in church yesterday. There were almost 30 people there, so quite the crowd. I spoke on obedience, which I thought was funny because that's what I talked on for my farewell. It went good I think. A few people said they really liked it, so that was good. I can't think of anything that I wish I brought with me, but if I think of anything I'll let you know. Thanks! I love you all! Have a great week! I love you!
Hey everyone!
So I have to be completely honest with you. We are only supposed to take 90 minutes to email, but I normally go over by 10 or 15 minutes because of how long it takes me to write these emails. So I think I'll write a shorter one this week, and a longer one next week. And trust me, you would way rather have a big email next week. This week was kind of just normal, nothing super great or crazy happened. But we got our transfer calls, and mine is kind of crazy. They are having me train a new missionary in a French speaking area. I've only been out 6 weeks, and they already want me to train. And I've been in an English area this whole time, so I don't know French any better than the poor guy I'm training. And I don't know the area at all. I don't even know the culture over there. It'll be quite the adventure! Pray for me! Oh, and there are lots of English speakers in St. Martin too, so I won't be completely dead. Well, that's your funny story for the week, me being super overwhelmed and confused and stuff. Have a good laugh about it, that's what I'm doing!
Ok, for a quick spiritual thought, I said something to a girl who was confused, and what I said helped her I think. She was confused why there is so much opposition about the book of mormon, and she didn't think it should be like that. I told her that it says people will reject the book of mormon and our church in the book of mormon, so every time someone says that the book of mormon isn't true, they are literally proving it is true because they are fulfilling the prophesies in it. Haha, stinks for them, they can't win. The church is true! Love you all and have a great week!
Love Elder Kerr
